HR Purpose

The Department is responsible for providing specialized HR concepts, methods, techniques, and professional judgement and advice to Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ) geared towards the effective and efficient utilisation of the Bank’s Human Resource.

All things being equal, the annual HR Delivery Charters will continue to be based on the following principles: 

  • That it is a means of linking DBZ’s changing business goals and strategies to Human Resource objectives and activities.
  • That it is a means of re-aligning the HR activities in order to play its core function and to effectively contribute to the varying operational needs of the Bank.
  •  That it is a response to the changing pattern of competencies on the job-market, mainly caused by rapid Changes in Information and communication Technology (ICT) and socio- economic and political environment.
  • That it is a means of cushioning DBZ from the pressure of human resource imbalances, which occur from time to time, and to help determine well in advance, the impact that the imbalance may cause on both labour costs and performance.

HR Contribution to DBZ

  • To be an integral part of operational planning and an equal partner.
  • To deliver the right HR solutions to DBZ at the right time, and to the expectations of staff.
  • To use our expertise and understanding of our clients’ (Staff) needs to deliver relevant HR initiatives and new ways of doing things.
  • To be pragmatic without reducing expected standards while maintaining consistency.
  • To provide levers which achieve cultural change.
  • To keep things simple.
  • To endeavour to get things right the first time all the time.
  • To treat people/staff fairly and consistently in an open manner with transparency on the one hand, and as individuals, respecting the value of our relationships and responding to their changing needs, on the other.
  • To be a world class HR professional team that DBZ and its staff can trust and rely on to fulfil their aspirations and expectations.
  • To manage employee relations proactively, professionally and effectively.
  • To contribute to Bank’s mission through the development and delivery of business and personal need based Training and Development solutions.

We have internship opportunities on an annual basis. The internships programme provides students the opportunity to have a taste of life in a real work environment in Development Bank of Zambia. Students have the option to apply for two or three months when they close for such periods. Interns will gain real exposure to the Bank’s core operations and clientele as well as network with our people at various foras. Applications are welcome from all academic disciplines.
